about
“Falling, Falling” is a song about harnessing the power of love and unity to triumph in the face of overwhelming uncertainty, even if you’ve already given up all hope. It’s a message that’s especially relevant today, which is why Book of Colors has decided to release it as a free digital download for your election day soundtrack.
In stark contrast to the orchestral arrangements of their self-titled debut album, this track features a crunchy mix of reverb-heavy guitars, synthesizers, and psychedelic flourishes over what is essentially a melody-driven pop song. Plus it’s also catchy enough to have you singing along and dancing your way through the day, which serves as a nice alternative to spending the next 24-72 hours staring at the news and hyperventilating.
The theme of triumph over tragedy is woven into every aspect of this song, including its creation story. A few days before the final mixing session at studilaroche in Atlanta, GA, their producer Ben Price was involved in a traumatic bicycle accident that nearly claimed his life, and his doctors said he would never walk again. Price was determined to prove them wrong, though—and against all odds, he succeeded. Almost exactly one year later, he was standing in the doorway of his studio once again, greeting the band as they arrived to put the finishing touches on “Falling, Falling.”
Less than a week later, the main creative force behind Book of Colors, André Paraguassu, relocated to Portland, OR. After acquiring a new lineup of musicians and joining Spirit House Records, he decided that the music video should be about his blossoming friendship with Book of Colors’ new multi-instrumentalist Megan Freshley. So the two of them booked a string of shows in California and hit the road, using Freshley’s iPhone to film each other dancing, giggling, and performing their way across the state. Unfortunately, they were unknowingly creating a visual diary of their last moments of triumph before another wave of tragedies struck, including the death of several close friends as well as the global pandemic.
“The creation of this song and music video has been the raft that’s carried me through this whole ordeal. Even on my darkest days, it’s kept me going by reminding me of what it is that I’m fighting for, and what kind of world we’re working to build. And even if we never win, it’s all still worth it. These moments of hope, laughter, and love are worth it.”

Old failing form
cut your hair
God it’s cold
no, don’t call it fate
low blow, even so
no way, it’s much too late

caked in gold
no, don’t crawl away
low blow, even so
no way, it’s much too late
falling, falling far below

Old saintly glow
make your way
wash your clothes
no, don’t calmly wait
low blow, even so
no way, it’s much too late
falling, falling, but not alone

Book of Colors is a band that constantly skirts the edge between torn-open soulfulness and delicate restraint. Their
melodies are dreamy and hypnotic, and lead singer André Paraguassu’s distinctively warm, crooning voice carries them with an easygoing authority that recalls singers from the big band era....more
